Description
Star trails are composite images derived from combining a series of images over a period of time.
This image was taken near Two Guns AZ. Two Guns is located between Winslow and Flagstaff Arizona and is unpopulated with very little ambient light in the sky, ideal for night photography. The photo is a merger of 111 separate images, each 30 seconds in length, taken over a period of approximately one hour. The North Star, Polaris is the concentric point around which all of the other stars are rotating.
The Ghost Town of Two Guns Arizona has had a rough and sordid history dating back to 1878 when a group of Apaches and Navajos had a conflict that resulted in 42 Navajos dying in a cave they had hidden in.
Construction of a railroad bridge across Canyon Diablo around 1880 started a rough and tough western area that developed further when a highway bridge was built across Canyon Diablo to carry the Old Route 66 in 1915. This bridge was replaced during a realignment of Route 66 in 1938.
Entrepreneurs of the day capitalized on the newfound traffic of Route 66 and built a tourist trap that many facets including a zoo with mountain lions heralded by road signs for miles in each direction.
Eventually the area was so vibrant that Two Guns even has its own exit on I-40, with no current viable businesses remaining.
