Santa Fe New Mexico has a unique architectural style. Many homes and businesses in the older areas and many new areas incorporate the traditional canales, corbels and vigas that give it a traditional and unique look.
Canales are the wooden drain spouts used to drain water from the traditional flat roofs found in the pueblo architecture. They are the local equivalent of rain gutters and spouts.
Corbels are the large carved wooden brackets running the length of the building that support the ceiling beams.
Vigas are the beams, usually round that support the roof and interior ceilings. Traditionally, they extend outward past exterior walls and are a notable feature of the exterior design. They are not visible in this image.
Photography has always been my passion, since I developed my first print, under a dim red light bulb in our basement, at about age ten in the small mining town of Ishpeming, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan's Iron Ore Range. This love was also greatly inspired and nurtured by our dear and close family friend, the Family Doctor that brought me into this world, Dr. J. P. Bertucci. I dedicate this website to him, along with my parents, who always encouraged my photographic endeavors. I know they would be all proud. I have pursued the hobby of Photography with varying highs and lows of intensity all of my formative years and my adult life.
