Description
Santa Fe New Mexico has a unique architectural style. Many homes and businesses in the older areas and many new areas incorporate the traditional canales, corbels and vigas that give it a traditional and unique look.
Canales are the wooden drain spouts used to drain water from the traditional flat roofs found in the pueblo architecture. They are the local equivalent of rain gutters and spouts.
Corbels are the large carved wooden brackets running the length of the building that support the ceiling beams.
Vigas are the beams, usually round that support the roof and interior ceilings. Traditionally, they extend outward past exterior walls and are a notable feature of the exterior design.
