Description
The Spitz Clock located on a prominent corner near the Santa Fe Plaza. In the back ground is the New Mexico Museum of Arts.
The Spitz Jewelry Store was established on the Plaza in 1881 and a clock, without works, was placed in front of the store to advertise the wares offered.
Near the turn of the century, the clock was replaced by a functioning clock. In 1915, it was knocked down by one of the first motor trucks in Santa Fe. This clock, the third, stood in front of the store from 1916 until 1967, when the south portal of the Plaza was built. The clock was donated to the citizens of Santa Fe by Bernard Spitz and was erected on this site in June of 1974.
